www.ArtPal.com/eileenmarquez47Since creating one of my first artworks with my mom at age 6, I have been fascinated by collage. My recent series of collage landscapes incorporate my love of nature, especially landscape, and my love of my home town, Brooklyn, New York. They also act as an ancestral tie to my mother who was a seamstress when she first immigrated from Cuba.
Using photographs that I’ve taken, mostly in Prospect Park and The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, as inspiration, I create collage landscapes using oil paints and fabric swatches. They express my fascination with the natural world and the multiple layers and meanings I see there. In nature, just as in ordinary life, nothing is simply what you see on first impression. There are whole universes starting with the smallest of creatures. I try to capture and convey the incredible beauty and wonder, as well as the preciousness, of nature.
