D. Michael Adams trained under a Master Sculptor in Paris from 1992-96, before moving back to the America where he began to cast in bronze and paint with oils. Michael and his photographer wife, Anyes, established Arts Alive Gallery/Studio in Breckenridge, Colorado. In 2005, he moved with his family to an ocean-front home in the Bahamas, creating both sculptures and paintings in this idyllic setting - with gallery shows in both mediums. From 2010-2013, the family was in London, where Michael was elected to the United Society of Artists and created a series of large paintings for St Barnabas Church. In 2013, Michael and his family moved to the Swiss Alps, where he creates paintings and sculptures in Bellevie Art Studio.
Statement
In sculpture, I celebrate the expressive power of the human figure with themes like Music & Dance, Angels & Mermaids, and Athletes. Although I was classically trained, I also enjoy playing with shapes where the emotion calls for a departure from strict anatomy. My work is cast in bronze, suitable for gardens and interiors, in unique marble patinas.
In painting, I explore the Alps with mountains, skies and animals in rich colors, often using a palette knife and oil paints. In watercolor and pastel, I paint nudes and animal portraits with a contemporary style.
