Deng Ajuech-nak was born in south sudan. part of his life he grew up in kenya after he fled his country due to civil war in 1999. He started learning art at a very young age before and after he moved to kenya as a refugee. Upon completion of primary level studies, he went to uganda where he further studied fine art up to advanced level (A-Level).
Things got thicker for him after his new nation got independence in 2012 and plunged again into civil war in 2013. He later came back to kenya and currently he is a student at University of Nairobi taking a course in Architecture.
His work is usually a collage of old newspapers, playing cards and arcylic paints. mostly inspired by his real life experiences as a child who fled his home country due to civil war. It does not only speak of what he went through but what is currently happening in the country. The country is engulfed in chaos and i tries to speak of how war has affected people socially and financially. Above all, not to ignore the impact it has on the Eastern African region.
Through his art, he hopes people understand how war has affected African nations and what should be done to avoid it at all costs. It has only divided us under different ethnis groups preventing us to see the bigger picture as Africans. Currently Deng lives and works as a visual artist in Riara, Nairobi, Kenya.
