Michael Maring is a graduate of Kendall College of Art and Design, born and a native of Jenison, Michigan. With a background as a painter, graphic artist, designer and illustrator, he covers a broad range of disciplines including acrylics, pastels, and oil as well as capturing his subjects in graphite pencil as a medium. His work is inspired, depicts and explores poignant people, rich landscapes and wondrous wildlife that surround him, often reflecting on his long passion for portrait art. His hallmark is capturing the deep character, expression and personality undertones of his subject. Striving to convey emotions, his work exhibits his fascination and pride for realism, incorporating the personal autobiography and recording the monumental events of his subjects. This recent piece, “Welcome Home”, is largely devoted and based on photographs of the servicemen and women in the Vietnam War, eloquently documenting their unwavering service, sacrifice and compassion to the children and people of the Republic of Vietnam. He states that he is humbled by the opportunity to express his gratitude and is inspired by their courage, perseverance and resilience, continuing to fuel his passion to dedicating his artwork for humanitarian efforts.
