Donald Corpier Starr, born in Wichita, Kansas, has been drawing since the age of five, and he credits his mother and a select group of early educators for recognizing and encouraging his artistic abilities. His primary mediums are pen/ink, pastel, charcoal and colored pencil.
Donald’s formal art education began with a summer school scholarship to the Belmont Art Studios in Wichita as a sixth grader. He received an Associate Degree from Coffeyville College in Kansas and later attended and studied art at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, before enlisting in the Air Force in 1971. He worked as an administrative clerk and graphics specialist during his eight years of service. Donald received a degree in Occupational Education from Southern Illinois at Carbondale in 1983, and later obtained an MFA (Illustration) from Syracuse University in 1990.
Donald has worked as a production artist in Seattle in the late seventies, and just completed a full career with the Department of Navy and Department of Labor, Mine Health and Safety Administration as a civil service graphic designer and videographer. Donald has always pursued being an artist, he has participated in various types of art festivals, art competitions and one man and group shows in different parts of the United States.
In 2017, Donald was awarded an Honorable Mention Artist Fellowship Award from the Nevada Arts Council. Also, was selected as one of seven ArtPop Street Gallery Las Vegas artist for 2018. (@ArtPop Street Gallery)
Donald’s philosophy for his God-given art talent is to provoke a mood or some type of emotion with his images, “When the audience looks at a two-dimensional image I have drawn, I want them to get some type of positive feeling from the piece”.
