Dave O’Brien explores a blend of pop-realism through different materials and mediums in each one of his paintings. O’Brien, with an appreciation for art an early age, is self-taught and only began painting a year ago as a means of providing Christmas presents for friends and family members. The Pittsburgh native debuted his first work in March of 2016 when his Pittsburgh Irish was selected to be featured on the Official Pittsburgh Saint Patrick’s Parade t-shirt. Recently, O’Brien’s art can be found on local beer tap handles and a designer clothing line called, VIDA. His artwork has evolved from Keith Haring-inspired city skylines to what is now the iconic pop-art purple faces you can find in the Carnegie Library of Downtown Pittsburgh’s window display. He often creates colorful and vibrant images of Pittsburgh, it’s people, and music while highlighting a local theme. Over the course of the fall, O’Brien experimented with live paintings curated by Redfishbowl™ and FAMEE LLC, but has most recently created a series of videos displaying his passion found on his social media accounts. The teacher, high school football coach, marathon runner makes the time each night to work on commissioned paintings and plans on hosting his own events in the near future in his shared studio space in Pittsburgh’s Northside. Inspiration and passion drive O’Brien’s growth and budding recognition as one of Pittsburgh young artists to watch.
