This piece is about the prevalence of rape culture in our society. The woman’s torso represents the victim of rape, with scars on her right shoulder and the left part of her waist. This project is supposed to explain what rape culture is. The painful idea that is demonstrated through this project is only a confrontation to our culture that rape happens more than often. Our culture could never accept that even “good” guys, whether our colleagues, friends, or family could ever commit rape. Our culture will only accept rape crimes from people they expect to rape—such as strangers or someone not familiar to us. We have to understand that ordinary men do rape. When a woman has the guts to come out and say she has been raped, we should not believe she is lying because the man that she said has raped her is a man that we could never imagine doing such a thing.
