Carol Shireena Sakai is an artist, painter, sculptor, scientist, teacher of holistic arts (tai chi yoga). She has a Ph.D in Medical Physiology from the U of Maryland School of Medicine. Since 1983, after an amazing creative healing breakthrough healing from child abuse through yoga and tai chi, she has focused on painting and sculpture.
Her artwork has been displayed in numerous shows and in national and international collections. Her corporate sculpture commissions include Urb Magazine on behalf of the Toyota Corporation, and the Yumm Food corporation who asked her to create a sculpture of their new “Colonel Saunders”. Her portraits have been featured in the Chicago Tribune and her sculpture in the Washington Post Magazine “First Person Singular”. She has completed over 50 private portrait commissions (both painting and sculpture) and for the last two years has focused entirely on sculptural works. She is well versed in the steps required for bronze sculpture has trained to weld together and finish her own bronze pieces. Her work is defined by complex flowing images, rhythms and themes.
