CALIOPE (Cali Norton)
www.ArtPal.com/caliopeI create vibrant, stylised and often symbolic artwork: from my inner landscape of “emotion recollected in tranquility,” my paintings capture a sense of place and/or spirituality. Inspired by our life in Dorset and Devon, our travels abroad, ‘other' worlds, and by deeply-felt life experiences echoed in poetry and mythology, my work suggests allegorical, timeless events.
For this, I employ a variety of techniques: mixed media, collage, Zen-tangling, marbling, textured surfaces, lino/mono-printing, watercolour and ink on Chinese Xuan paper etc and a variety of mediums: gouache, gesso, watercolour, modelling paste, pastels, acrylic ink/paint, black ink, Brusho.
Having always been fascinated by Palaeography, in some of my paintings, I use iconic visual symbols from ancient writing systems as well as my original Pictographic alphabet and Calligraphic markings.
So meanings, stories and images filtered through memory and imagination evolve and deepen of their own accord - for this is a joyful never-ending journey: “As long as I can paint, I am on the Path to understanding what ‘it’ is all about.” (P Wolff)
