This painting is based on a photo taken by the artist at Popham Beach in Phippsburg, Maine. The view is from the walking path from Civil War-era Fort Popham heading toward the beach. Popham Beach is unique because it once was home to a short lived pilgrim colony in the 17th century and is located where the mouth of the Kennebec river meets the Atlantic. This gorgeous beach is home to a small community and houses two stone fort lookouts that were utilized during the Civil War. This beautiful spot is also where the 1990's movie Message In A Bottle was filmed.
