Helen tries to cover up her scars along with her bruises and cuts by putting on heavy makeup; she believes that the shiny coat of makeup will shield her abusive life from the world. However the problem is that as she gets older she is finding that no matter how much makeup she applies the cracks in her façade are starting to show through. She is more terrified of this than she ever could be of her abusive partner, and as each day passes hiding the cracks becomes more and more difficult.
