ARTISTS STATEMENT: As an Artist, I have created what I love. If others love it as well, then i feel I have succeeded in my intent.
My painting subject matter is mainly portraiture. Popular Culture bombards us these days so I have stayed true to my interest in Celebrity portraits. I find them very photogenic which is conducive to my work, and with them being recognizable and relatable in our mainstream lives, it brings joy to myself and to the onlooker and aids in creating conversations regarding the subject as well as the technique.
Currently, my work consists of a technique I call Illusionart. I utilize a hydrophobic material to paint the image. When the paint is applied the image appears as if by magic. I never know how each piece will turn out until the paint has been applied, which makes for an exciting event each time I complete a piece.
Celtic history, culture, myths and legends are also driving forces in my life and my Art work. I mainly utilize these influences in my leather carving incorporating Celtic knotwork and Zoomorphic designs in the overall pieces. I mainly, of late, have created traditional shaped shields or targes with either family Coats of Arms or Clan Crests carved into the leather, which is mounted upon a wood base. I color or stain and antique each piece completing it with metal tacks to complete the effect. Each piece is then protected with a carnauba wax creme and buffed to a satin lustre. These pieces are heirloom quality and make for a stunning focal point in your ohme.
My Celtic heritage means I come from a long line of passion. Passion for beliefs, traditions, lifestyle and life in general.
I feel my work radiates the passion which fuels the creation of it.
