Jonathan E. Benash was born and raised in southern Wisconsin. He grew up loving two things, sports and art. Following high school, Jon set out on his quest of combining his two boyhood passions. Jon received his Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art in 1993 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon graduation, Jon pursued a career as a professional artist and illustrator. His pastel paintings of famous athletes earned him praise and recognition from magazines, galleries, and museums, as well as many private collectors of his work.

After nearly ten years as a professional artist, Jon decided to take on a new role, as an art teacher. He found that teaching art to others was just as rewarding as making his own art. In June of 2003, Jon completed his teacher certification program at UW-Madison and received his teaching license from the Wisconsin DPI. A year later, Jon was hired by the School District of Belleville as its new High School Art Teacher and Varsity Softball Coach. Sixteen years later Jon is still teaching Art & Design at the high school level in Belleville. He has also coached several sports during that time and is currently the MS Girl's Basketball Coach. Over the course of Jon’s career at Belleville he has taught courses in Beginning and Advanced Drawing, Beginning and Advanced Painting, Ceramics, Jewelry, Graphics & Illustration, Foundations in 2-D & 3D Art, Digital Photography and Advanced Studio Art. Jon has helped develop the Art curriculum at Belleville High School into the type of art program he always envisioned.
