My work is in pursuit of what inspires me. My technique is informed by my years in the film industry as an art director: interpreting narrative into visual form, establishing atmosphere, mood and presence. By applying this awareness to painting I imply a gestalt that moves a story forward. I have recurring themes that occupy me, some whimsical, some serious. I am motivated to explore subliminal imagery and suppress the ubiquitous bombardment of social media. By liberating my mark making I diffuse focus, shifting attention to selective areas of canvas while leaving others incomplete, inviting contemplation. The rhythm of mark making at any moment is determined by the music I am listening to and I like to think that music is reflected in the painting.
