The Hanover Street Bridge at sunset (in Black & White) in Baltimore, Maryland, crosses the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River, connecting the community of South Baltimore and Port Covington on the north shore to the communities of Cherry Hill and Brooklyn to the south. The bridge has been carrying traffic on South Hanover Street, Maryland Route 2, for more than a century. It is a type of drawbridge known as a bascule bridge and is one of the few remaining in the region. Since 1916 it has been serving as a southern gateway to Baltimore and is known for the beautiful supporting arches that span the Patapsco. In 1993 it was renamed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge.

The Hanover Street bridge in nearly 2,300 feet long and carries five lanes of traffic. Waters flowing under the bridge reach the Chesapeake Bay and, eventually, the Atlantic Ocean.
