The dumping sites in Soweto, South Africa, are the source of many materials used by Mighta Makhutle. Bottle, caps, straws, pieces of glass, all find form and function in the expressive pieces made by this artist. He portrays life in all its splendour and bleakness in an honest and unpretentious fashion. The reality of struggles within a post- Apartheid South Africa are aptly portrayed. Born in Soweto, South Africa in 1961, Makhutle enrolled for a fine arts course at the University of South Africa in 1986, where he built the foundations that are now seen in his works
