ARTFAUL : JAN W FAUL ARTwww.ArtPal.com/artfaul
Jan W. Faul, Photographer & Published Author
Hey There! Nice of you to stop by. This is a collection of my personal work. Some have been published and some haven't, like the Ali series.
An example could be John & Tim, from the Danish group 'Laid Back' or shots from Gettysburg Battlefield which got published by National Geographic.
There are no cars or Bibles, but there is a single boombox.
I have only ever is no to two assignments, and both were to work in war zones. I have celebrities, actors, boxers, executives, musicians, fashion models, and art models.
Ali wasn't a client, but I shot him for TIME, and miraculously, I was the sole shooter. I made 500+ shots and instead of getting in and out in an hour, I was there the entire day. Ali & I talked about all kinds o things, including Cadillacs, women, what booze (neither of us drank) did to others, travel, etc. People have been trying to steal the negatives for years. If you really really need them, make me an offer. Bidding starts at $2.3 million, as I have been offered that. But they should either go to a wealthy oil or manufacturing baron and leave the US, or a Dot Com guy here and stay. The images are not like any you have seen before, as he is relaxed and at his training camp home.
I have traveled to locations as varied as the ideas of man.
Mr. Faul spent 20 years photographing the hand of man on America, and 30 years shooting everything else. 'Shooting' only refers to cameras, not guns.
Faul has been awarded grants from NEH, the Graham Foundation, and others. His image "Travelin' Sounds", is in the ASMP Hall of Fame. There were 45,000 entries and very few winners. For me to place above my heroes was a heady experience.
His photographs are in the collections of the Smithsonian, Corcoran, Hirschhorn, and about 30+ other collections across America & Europe.
Mr. Faul is also a published author, with three books out so far. 'The Lost Portraits' about Muhammad Ali is at Amazon. It is illustrated with images of Ali made by Mr. Faul. 'The Greatest!' is available at Amazon.de or from the publisher, Kommode Verlag, in Zürich.
Faul has recently begun writing fiction, with "The Hot 40's" in editing, and two books about ghosts set in Washington DC and a castle in Scandinavia waiting in the wings.
Stop by again, & if you have questions, send me an email. firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks for stopping by,
Jan (pronounced Yan) Faul
Even though I am vegetarian, I sure could use a big dish of beef chow mein. Yahoooooo, Werewolves of London.
PS: Yes, I know there is a blue barn in the red section. I didn't where to put it.
PPS: This past summer when a lockdown was going on, I had some time to kill, so I wrote a 50,000-word piece of fiction about Holton Arms School.
It was hard to work there, as I was 27 and my students were all 18, and thus saw me as 'an older man'. Their bored wealthy mothers got in on the act too, and some chased me around even though I was married. One didn't like it that I drove a VW and so leased me a Ferrari for the summer. Frankly, it was more fun than she was and it came with a gas card in the glove box. It's with my agent now & It would be nice to get a publisher too. If an advance appeared I would be overjoyed.
In about two weeks I'll be ready to start the next book. It's gonna be a ghost story set on Capitol Hill in the '60's. I had friends in a home with a ghost or two they saw every day. George had been a trolley driver in DC and perished in a gunfight with the cops in 1906, and his wife had died from being a streetwalker. George was her pimp.
