Hello - I'm a part-time artist and writer living on an island in Queensland, Australia. I have been drawing things I love all my life and recently have come to love the mindfulness and peace found in careful, delicate lines - just black on white. I am most happy with a cup of tea and a good book or a sketch pad somewhere I can look out at the sea and trees - so the island suits me. An introvert by temperament, I find insipration in the natural world - lines of wear in driftwood, decaying leaf veins, the ring of dappled feathers on a bird's throat ... all silent, all rich with life and all lovely. These thoughts take me to the sketchpad and the pens I use. I like to work with very fine ink pens sourced in Thailand - .003 ml and some heavier lines for texture.
When I began, I usually started with a flowing line - a natural shape - like a leaf. With time, I have also found pleasing shapes in numbers and letters, names of friends and even mathmatical symbols. I like to work with form, texture, related images, and careful detail. The spaces between the lines are as important to the overall form as the lines. I make use of repeated patterns very often. Each piece is unique and the product of hours of slow deliberate work.
I hope the tone of my work is simple and peaceful. With so many very fine lines, it could be busy - but I strive to achieve calmness and balance. The work gives me a sense of achievement and satisfaction, and I like to think each one also offers some of that finished-ness and satisfaction to the viewer.
My artwork includes a range of sizes and prices: bookmark size, cards 7 cm X 12 cm, small art 10cm X15cm, larger 12cm X 17cm. If a piece you like is sold, I can take an order for something similar.
