Milt is a 91 year old Oregon artist who, on retirement, began a new life as an artist and writer (fortunate to have more than one horse to ride), His work found it's way into many Northwest Galleries and shows over a 25 year period. He is a past member of Oregon Society of Artists, Village Gallery, and International Society of Scratchboard Artists.
His passion for the last 15 years has been Scratchboard ; also known as Sgraffito.
Initially unknown to most in the industry. Now emerging as powerful force in the art world Internationally with many awards.
The questions have been from viewers have been repeatedly; "What is this?" and
" How do you do this?" ... Music to any artists ears.
Answer.... Fired white clay is applied over a Masonite panel. Then a coat of black India Ink....Then, the images are developed by a variety of sharp instruments to reveal white by removing black....the opposite from panting-on. Finally colored media is applied if desired....then protective coating.
