I'm a Philadelphia painter working in acrylic. I paint wide array of subject matter in realistic style, including still lives, landscape, and cityscapes. These paintings are highly-detailed works with an eye to the effects of light, shadow, and reflection. I also have a popular series of science fiction characters in the guise of Byzantine icons and other religious art.
I got my start in art as a sort of stress relief from graduate school coursework. My mother used to paint in acrylic, so I had her old paints at my disposal while home visiting on vacation one winter. When I returned to Philadelphia, I got some paints of my own and kept at it. I've never had any formal art training, so my skills and style have been cultivated by my own persistence and trial by error (and admittedly a natural knack for it). I'm still finishing off my PhD, but spend most of my remaining free time on the weekends painting new pieces.
