Description

Myrna Darby (1908-1929) was hired at age 17 by Florenz Ziegfeld. Critics said she was the most beautiful woman ever to appear in the Follies. While working, Myrna would bring homemade cookies to others on set, and showed kindness to all she encountered. She was 21 when she died, some say of a broken heart.

I am a self taught artist who works mainly with oil paints, pastel crayons and pastel pencils. Being in close proximity (Belgium) to the masterworks of Rubens, Vermeer , Van Eyck and other great Dutch and Flemish painters awakended in me an interest in Renaissance art and the techniques used by the Masters hundreds of years ago. I have also recently developed an interest in the actresses of the silent films and performers in Ziegfeld Follies, and I am working on a series of drawings and paintings dedicated to the graceful, natural beauty of the women of this past era.
