www.ArtPal.com/acrusaw01I began painting in high school when, during my senior year, I took an art class as an elective. In an assignment, I saw an image on a shed that reminded me of a guiding spirit watching over a dying child. The painting was featured in the school art displays that year and ignited an interest in painting. I took a commercial art class in college, and this became the foundation for my career as a draftsman-illustrator when I enlisted in the Air Force. When I got out, and after finishing a Bachelor of Arts in English and journalism, I took a job as an advertising copyrighter with the Kansas City Star. Eventually, I went into teaching English and English as a Second Language, and then on to teaching management, leadership, and organizational development in the government and at three major research universities. I continued to paint during graduate school and intermittently during my full-time work; two of my paintings won blue ribbons at a juried art exhibition in Fairfax, VA. But not until I was ready to retire that I resumed oil painting. Since 2018, I began exhibiting my oil paintings and won recognition through One Love Manassas for “Nova Scotia Shoreline” and “Lilacs in a Copper Pot.” In 2019, I opened a website, Art for the Spirit.Shop, and have begun to exhibit prints of the original oil paintings.
