William (Bill) Amme ~ Artist in Oil

My Dad was a portrait artist and did this as a hobby. I would watch him paint. Then I started drawing and painting with Dad.

In the Summer of 1962, after graduating from William & Mary College, I backpacked through Europe. While there I did some pen and ink sketches. I liked painting and when I came home Dad got me lessons with Albert Sanski, a well known local artist, at his studio in Haddonfield, NJ.

In 1967-1968 I served as a lieutenant in Viet Nam; U.S. Army 1st Infantry. While there I did drawings of the jungle and surrounding countryside with map markers that were only felt black, green and red.

After I was married, I always enjoyed being creative including oil painting, carving wood block prints, and carving and painting shore beach birds. I had a stroke in 2005 and did not do much artistically. However, in 2011, I began taking lessons from Vickie Morningstar in Boynton Beach, and by others. I reside in Delray Beach, Florida with my wife ,and I am a juried member of the Delray Art League.
