Artist Vicko Kavelj is and has been a passionate artist his whole life.
Born in 1940. during great poverty in a small village Lokvicici of the Dalmatian hinterland (Croatia), a harsh but enthralling landscape, he finished the School of applied art, Herceg Novi Montenegro, in the duration of five years.
The scenery of his homeland directly influenced his artistic path which is why he mostly painted landscapes, especially the well known Red and Blue Imotski lakes which bring people from all over the world as a great toursit attraction with its distinct and unusual beauty. In the last decade Vicko adapted a more abstract artistic path which in a different way encapsulates his obsession with the same landscape. His use of intense colours also carries a strong message of the creation of life in the symbolic collisions of planets, Earth and fire with motives of the creation of the Universe itself.
Although he spent his professional career working as a graphical editor, delving into graphical design and caricatures, in his heart he was always a passionate artist. Regardless of the academic title, which he never acquired due to unfortunate circumstances and poverty, it would be inappropriate to name him an amateur artist because he lives for art.
The paintings shown here are collectively named "Propuntavanje" which can be roughly translated as "Collapse". The whole series deals with the same theme which is why only their numeration is given.
Until now, Vicko had about twenty independent and numerous group exhibitions.
