Karl Prohaska is the principle artist at Sun Bear Creative. Originally from Lower
Burrell, Pennsylvania, An Executive Chef by trade, he has been painting for 10
years after he purchased his first set of oil paints and a Bob Ross book. Sensing
he did not have the patience for oils, he moved on to spray paint and adapted oil
techniques for the faster medium while painting space paintings and landscapes.
He a began doing landscapes in acrylics finishing some and failing at many. It
was during one of these failures that he began to do more abstract work where is
found his home as a painter. He credits the realization that “you can’t see
everything” as a turning point. “Roads dip and twist; brightness obscures detail;
shadows occur even at night. It’s the dark little spaces, the negative spaces, that
fascinate and inform my work”
