Sonia was born in Czechoslovakia (Central Europe), and now lives in Austria (the country in 1993 split into Slovakia and the Czech Republic). She began her art studies at an early age, spending eight years at the school for artistically gifted children in her home country. The following four years she studied art at the exclusive School of Applied Arts in Bratislava. Pupils of this school have gone on to become giants of European art, wie Oscar-winning film director Juraj Jakubisko, and influential European painter Albín Brunovský. Other artists from the former Czechoslovakia include the famous Koloman Sokol, who taught in Mexico at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he founded a new study of 'Graphics'. Sonia began to exhibit her work in Europe while a student - her art quickly became Widely accepted and appreciated in her home nation. While spending several years traveling the world, she dedicated herself to creating native art with a unique European perspective. Her focus for the past six months has been Mexican art, creating her own interpretations of Native art in many forms. Sonia's motives for her artwork are pure and straightforward. She uses themes Which give 'artistic form' that require no interpretation. She uses various techniques and mediums in cluding oil, acrylkic, pencil, graphite and Chinese tincture. Sonia is also an accomplished artist in glazed clay sculpture.
