A Nigerian born artist, Segun Phillips is a young studio trained artist with a diploma in Fine Arts from the Obafemi Awolowo University,Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
He started his art journey in the year 2010. After years of learning and honing his skills, He was able to develop his own unique style of painting which he calls “WOODISM’ which uses paint to create a wood-like effect on a painting. It was derived from the popular Araism Technique.
He is a lover of good music and often finds inspiration in harmony, tones and lyrical content. His work is influenced by the various sceneries that he comes across.
Segun participated in the Union Bank Centenary Art Challenge in 2017 and was able to win the first position, which was coincidentally the first ever art competition he had entered. Segun has had his works featured in various magazines like the Conté Magazine, South Africa twice in the years 2016 and 2018. He is also known for his amazing portraits of popular Nigerian Comedians like Williams Uchemba and Samuel A. Perry popularly known as Broda Shaggi. He has participated in many art exhibitions all over the world like the Annual Araism Movements, The American Nigerian Cultural Collaborative Project and many more. He has also hosted a 3 man Joint art exhibition in 2019 titled “Art Connect''.
Segun is a firm believer that increased investments in creative platforms is a key to engaging young people and channeling youthful energy into creating a better society.
