Rick Ruark

Born in Columbus, Ohio, ‘I am a self-taught, Pittsburgh contemporary acrylics painter. I began painting after my move to South Florida 35 years ago where I was inspired by the beauty of the landscapes, cultural diversity and architecture of Miami.
Over the years, I have shown my art in various venues in South Florida as well as Pittsburgh, Erie and Malvern PA and nationwide.

Artist Statement

Humor, satire and beauty are all focuses of my art. In creating pieces with this focus, I hope to expand my capabilities and thus offer the results to a wider audience. While some of my works are very conventional, others are quite edgy. I am having fun with it all. While I'm very serious about my art, my subject matter is not necessarily serious.

Everything visual is my primary influence. There is art in everything I see, good or bad. The architecture and design of Frank Lloyd Wright, the graphic design and paintings of Peter Max, the humor of Andy Warhol, Franz Kline, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, the Wyeths and Salvador Dali all have major impacts on the way I sees things and hopes to better understand the way they saw things.
