I come from a large family of art enthusiasts. Growing up, my dad would often drag his reluctant children to museums and spend an excruciatingly long time examining each painting. Needless to say, we caught the art bug.

While studying sociology at Seattle University, I took introductory courses in drawing, painting, sculpture and music. I eventually pursued a degree in nursing but maintained a keen interest in art during his 40 years working as a registered nurse.

I began to experiment with painting in 2000--mostly flowers and fruit still lifes and landscapes. After my retirement in 2015, I found myself focusing on art, travel and political activism. Inspired by my love of historical biographies of politicians and artists, I focused my energy on portraits.

After taking Todd Telander's art class and learning to be more mindful in my work, I decided to paint portraits of all the U.S. presidents. I hope you enjoy my collection of presidents and other notable characters. I paint what I see but mostly what I feel, using color to create feelings and emotions.
