Description

This is a print of my oil painting titled "October Wind." The painting was based on the same site as the work titled "Against the Wind" but at a different time of the year (here it is early autumn and in the "Against the Wind" it is late winter.)

I applied the paint in a loose manner capturing the "feel" of a windy autumn day in the pasture rather than picky details. There are cows but the real subject is the wind and the color the sky gets when there's a hint of snow coming.The light scratchy marks noticeable here and there on the cows are intentional. In those areas I scraped/scratched to the ground (the canvas/paper the painting is on) to suggest sunlight glinting off the cows.

I base my work in observational drawings I make on-site or from memory. Preferred media are oil paint and pastels but I also frequently work in a variety of printmaking processes (including silkscreen, monotype, transfer, or etching.)

After completing my Bachelor of Arts, I spent a couple years at the (then) Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) where I primarily studied/drew/painted the human figure from live models and sketched from cadavers at the Foothills Teaching Hospital (also in Calgary).

If I had to categorize my subject matter, I'd say it is Life and Environments. Those two elements are never static and that challenges me to create art that stirs the mind and remains visually engaging over time.
