Laurie S Auth was born in Washington, DC. She graduated from the
University of Virginia majoring in literature and art history. There, in her
fourth year, she concentrated in studio art and knew that she wanted to
make art for the rest of her life. She studied painting with Ray Yoshida at
the School of the Art Institute of Chicago earning an MFA degree. She
has been a full-time artist for 40 years. At the beginning of her career, she
created two-dimensional art of abstract landscapes and figurative works,
painting in a range of mediums -- oil, acrylic, gouache, ink, pencil, and
collage. Later, she created three-dimensional mixed-media sculpture and
relief. Currently, she is creating portraits from the bird collection at the
Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University.
She lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut, and exhibits her work
locally and nationally.
