This piece is 6' 7" by 4' Created on a large piece of recycled plywood, it was cleaned thoroughly, plastered then designed. The medium is epoxy resin mixed with mica powder pigments. The resin and colors were mixed, poured over the dried plaster, and manipulated by hand. Under a blacklight you can see more layers and things really come to life in sky, reflection of the moon in the water, and the shoreline.
This art resembles a daytime moon rising over the ocean. I added layer after layer of resin to the sky to add dimension, and show the clouds coming in and going out. The moon was manipulated to resemble a lotus flower that had been sealed inside of it resembling the safe keeping of its jewel of enlightenment.
“ohm mani padme hum", or “hail the jewel in the lotus.” The ohm is the “jewel” that resembles the sound of the universe and enlightenment. In the vedic system of astrology the moon is the most important - horoscopes are read and dependent upon it.
