Ruth Bowen Professional Artist

Born in Barbados Ruth began painting at an early age with a mother who was a successful and extremely detailed water-colorist and Ruth was inspired to become a professional artis So intent on art she was often sent to detention for drawing in her math classes.

At 19 years old, she married her husband whose family owned one of the largest auction houses on the Island and she found herself fascinated with the wonderful details of the antique porcelain works of art that would come through the auctions. Working with her husband Bowen found herself researching the history and techniques of these master porcelain painters and attempting to paint them. Through a friend, was discovered by Isabel Mendez, a renowned teacher and director of the Porcelain Painters Society of Puerto Rico. Under her tutelage, she learned to paint in the styles of the masters such as Meissen, Dresden, Sevres, Flora Danica and Limoges.

After painting porcelain for many years she decided to try her hand at Acrylics and fine canvas work of art.

She returned to Orlando Fl after her husband's retirement and has continued her painting. "I come by my painting honestly " said Ruth Bowen " as most members of my family were, or are, currently artists". "I love abstract fine art and I find myself so detailed oriented that my work has come to have a very unique voice that seems to connect with collectors."

Now focused completely on her Acrylic work with emphasis on Caribbean scenery which is reflected in her strong use of color which is indicative of the wonderful light in these places. This combination is propelling her brand into new areas of America and she is currently expanding her representation across America. Her work hangs in private collections in Europe, UK, Caribbean and US.
