Ive studied drawing at the Art Students League of New York, I am self taught in oils and other mediums. I attended New York Institute of Technology and studied commercial art. I have been greatly influenced by the master impressionists and post impressionists. Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Vincent Van Gogh, John Singer Sargent to name a few.
When I first started painting, I studied the Renaissance masters and painted realistically. I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC to see these paintings in person. I was leaving and had to walk past the Impressionists and I was floored! So much lighter and freer in technique. It looked like fun, and I've never looked back.
Impressionism forces the viewer to do some work and fill in the blanks. The realists did all the work for you, like a photograph. Please enjoy my work, most of my paintings are "en plein aire" which is French and translates to "in the open air".
