This particular piece features the male guardian lion, which can be identified by noting its front right paw on the embroidered ball called a "xiù qiú". It is sometimes carved with a geometric pattern resembling the figure called "Flower of Life" in the New Age movement. The male Guardian Lion is known for protection the structure of a building, warding off evil spirits.
