Ashes to Beauty

Ashes to Beauty

God promised to make beauty from ashes in Isaiah 61:3, so I found a way to make ashes from my loved ones into beauty.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,

To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Isaiah 61:1-3 NKJV

Ever since I was a child, I had dreams of painting but was too insecure to pick up a brush to try it. In 2014 I picked up some crayons, a hair dryer, and a paint brush, and the rest is history. That's when I began my deep, spiritual outlet expressed on canvas from extensive physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. I found that the best treatment was poetry and painting. In 2016, I got brave enough to buy a small set of acrylic paint and try my hand with acrylics and was surprised at how I was able to enhance my gifts. Most recently, I was carrying the urn of my son's father and it fell and broke at my feet. I was devastated. All of a sudden, God spoke to me and shined a ray of light on the right side of my face, and interestingly I smelled lavender, jasmine, then sandalwood. Suddenly God spoke to me. As tears were pouring down my face about the broken urn, He commanded me to make "beauty out of those ashes". Just like a soldier, I followed orders from Our Father, and I painted the first ashes to beauty painting, which is called "Humble", which is what "Paul" means, my son's father's name. From that point, I also realized that my late grandfather deserved to be honored as well and I painted "Abuelo". I am looking forward to comforting loved ones of the dearly departed to turn their "ashes" into "beauty". Each painting and piece that I create is based solely on prayer and I do not replicate because I want for each person to have a special, unique piece of art that is personal, just for them, and I do not feel that any soul is the same; therefore each of my paintings is one-of-a-kind. I hand paint from start to finish, and spend many hours on each in prayer. I speak with the loved ones of the families, and see pictures of the deceased so that I can feel their spirit connected with the Holy Spirit. I also enjoy hearing the heartfelt stories of their deceased loved ones as I feel it helps me to connect more with the family. If a particular deceased/loved one, or the family, was not particularly religious or spiritual it makes no difference. We are all part of this universe and each of us are deserving of our own belief systems and spiritual or non-spiritual preferences. In the end, it all equates to the love and honor we can give to our loved ones' transition into the transfer of energy back into the universe. My paintings are about the one universal word that everyone can agree on - LOVE.

"You can only lose what you cling to."
- Buddha

"Love is not about possession. Love is about appreciation."
- Osho
