He spent his childhood there and received his basic Art training at the Secondary School of Applied Art in the city of Trojan in 1993. He moved from Eastern Europe to Alexandria, Louisiana in 1993 where he presented several successful art exhibits for the following two years. Consecutively he was invited to the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) where he accepted a full scholarship and graduated with B.F.A. in Illustration and Graphic Design in 1999. There, he absorbed the acute attention to form and color associated with his paintings, subsequently refining his own visual and conceptual vocabulary that emerged through his focus on the points of intersection between impressionism, realism, and spatial analysis.
Subsequent to that he attended the Post-Graduate Art program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City UMKC.
He also has trained extensively with the nationally known painters and visual artists Kati Toivanen, Jim Sajovic, John Ferry, Jack Lew, and Steve Mayse. Vlad's other major influences are Debra Di Blasi who is an author, screenwriter and publisher and Rodney Ems, one of his mentors and friends.
He was also a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation*, a grant honoring artists from around the world for exceptional talents and contributions to the visual arts (1995).
Vlad has worked at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Arts and The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. At present he works and resides in Omaha, Nebraska.
Recent group collaborative exhibitions include paintings with artist Anna Ayers.
“Aesthetically, I believe that art should impact the viewer and stir an inner feeling or memory. If I have evoked that emotion then my painting is successful. “
