American Dream: Overland Expeditionwww.ArtPal.com/AmrDrmOvrlndEx
The American Dream: Overland Expedition is a web-series that will be produced by me, a college journalism student. I will be travelling the nation for an internship filming rodeos this summer while producing content for this project. My vehicle/home for this will be my 2003 Ford Excursion 6.0L Diesel. I will be traversing as many back roads, trails and parks while on an Overland Expedition across the United States.
The goal of this web-series will be an analytical search to define what is an American, what is “The American Dream” and whether that dream is thriving or barely surviving. I will be producing an independent documentary on Social Media platforms: https://www.facebook.com/TheAmericanDreamOverlandExpedition/
And YouTube video launch coming soon,in a journalism style, searching for these answers and more. My goal is to do this by meeting you, the American people.
I am a 30-year-old college student, a veteran and patriot whose love for the United States runs deep. I fear that we as a nation have lost some of our National Identity and people are almost afraid to call themselves American. Why? Donald Trump says he will, “Make America Great Again.” Is it not still great? Perfect no, but great, maybe!
I want this web-series to be about the people, for the people and by the people. I want to know what you, the people, think it is to be American.
Producing this content using gofundme.com ensures that conglomerate business influences will not be involved. My only loyalties will be to you the audience, whom is funding this project with me, and my journalistic ethics as defined here, http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp.
I am an American and I want to know you, my fellow Americans.
What is an American?
Merriam-Webster Dictionary says that an American is: 1) A person born, raised or living in the U.S. 2) A person born, raised or living in North or South America. 3) A citizen of the U.S.
Do you the people agree with this? I want to know.
J. Hector St. John De Crevecoeur a farmer, author, immigrant, diplomat and Canadian militiaman became a colonial settler in the United States before there was a United States. He married and had a home in what became New York and he travelled throughout New England and Canada before returning to Europe.
He described an American in his essays, published in the late 1700s, Letters From an American Farmer. Crevecoeur said:
“They are a mixture of English, Scotch, Irish, French, Dutch, Germans and Swedes. From this promiscuous breed, that race now called Americans have risen…I could point out to a family whose grandfather was an Englishman, whose wife was Dutch, whose son married a French woman, and whose present four sons have now four wives of different nations. He is an American, who, leaving behind him all his ancient prejudices and manners, receives new ones from the new mode of life he has embraced, the new government he obeys, and the new rank he holds…Here individuals of all nations are melted into a new race of men, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great changes in the world.” – From Letter III. What Is an American
(Genetic testing has proven that many other races mixed too: Native American, African, Spanish, Etc.
From this example one could argue that American is a race and not a nationality. American may be the first race without nationality since nations formed in history? What do you think, donate and tell me YOUR answers to these questions.
