Alyssa has lived a quarter century. She grew up in Richmond with a sister and her parents in a quiet suburb outside Vancouver, B.C. In general a cheerful and positive person. Alyssa learned early on how others see Autistic people and how the simple things for them can be much more challenging for her. Nothing has come easy or fast. There have been daily challenges and hurts. Alyssa learned that self soothing can be more things other than autistic stimuli. Early on Alyssa was victimized in a home daycare. Through therapy she discovered that artistic endeavours can help connect previously fragmented memories and soothe the soul. Her artwork relays her innermost feelings where words may elude her. A paintbrush can convey an elusive thought or feeling where as speech and language are a struggle. Colours and brush strokes need no explanation.
Likewise a camera serves to capture an emotion, thought or feeling. With a gentle unassuming soul, Alyssa is drawn to the beauty all around her. She takes great pleasure in her creations and photographs and is happy to be able to share them here.
