Alison's Pets and Portraitswww.ArtPal.com/AlisonHughes
I have been drawing and painting for five years and now find myself in various galleries and shops, my reach is growing and my latest step is being included in an Anne Kullberg book. My main workload consists of pet and people portrait commissions and I have recently set up a website to help organise that side of things. alisonspetsandportraits.com.
I have been involved with the charity, Blind Veterans UK, where I have donated many portraits of the veterans that hang in the halls and a mural in the Poppy Wing. My highlight was presenting an original portrait to Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex, an honour I have been told as she rarely accepts such gifts, she is the patron of Blind Veterans and they commissioned me to do the portrait, a copy resides in Llandudno.
My main passion is drawing Britsh animals, although I must admit there really isn't an animal that I am not passinate about and strive with each one to find their true nature and that special something that makes their admirer fall in love with them. My animal collection has inspired me to teach others and I am currently dong local workshops to teach my techniques in coloured pencil, a medium that is growing as artists, such as Anne Kullberg, are showing what can be achieved with what was once an underrated medium.
I love the realism that can be atained with pencils but also the softness with pastel, especially when it is put on velour, a paper that feels almost like suede.
I do sometimes come out of my comfort zone and I have won three prizes for doing so, which gives me confidence to push myself further.
I hope you like my paintings, I am lucky enough to paint full time, so my gallery will constantly change, please drop by again soon.
