Many Panthers of the German Army has been captured in relatively good order following the battle of Normandy, often because of mobility concerns, maintenance and gearbox issues. They retained all their punch in long range gunnery and the few captured made valuable assets for the FFI or “Forces Française de l’Interieur” a name given to resistance movements. Two were captured at the battle of Dompaire, which are possibly the two that long standed in front of the Musée des Invalides Gates (photo), so well after the liberation near Nancy. However one has been taken by the FFI in Normandy that could have taken part in the aftermath of the battle of Paris. Nevertheless after the war, the many Panthers recovered and repaired formed 501st and 503rd Armored Regiments, mostly used for evaluations which would help shaping the AMX-50 prototypes.
