On each of my pieces, I really try to find a name that depicts what I'm feeling at that moment in time. After struggling to decide how I wanted to finish this one, ultimately a cross is what my heart was leaning towards. This entire piece is meant to look weathered and worn....except for the lily in the center of the cross.
After seeing all the incredible devastation and suffering brought by Hurricane Harvey, I felt compelled to name this piece as a reminder that God is always there as a refuge, waiting not only to protect us from the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual storms in our lives, but also to transform and strengthen us during these times of heartache and devastation. Although it's often difficult to understand God's purpose for pain in the midst of the storms in our lives....and as weathered and worn as we may feel...God is there, waiting to take our brokenness and turn it into something beautiful.
