An original piece from the series “Weltschmerz”, acrylic and oil on canvas (cardboarded canvas) What impact has the portrayal of women on our society?This painting represents the portrait of a woman that reflects the social perception of a mental distortion. As a future psychiatrist this particular painting has a great importance for me, as my purpose is to emphasise mental issue awareness. Not long ago it was believed that only women could be nevrotic. Women have been abused and opressed for centuries and it still goes on but in other forms. Beauty campaigns could be an example. We teach little girls how to act in order to please the society, we teach them how to look, what to think and sadly what not to think. We turn them in to beauty robots full of unexpressed thoughts and desires. We forgot that beauty is in the soul. We killed the human spirit for the sake of marketing and advertising. My personal desire is to make an impact on society, to help people grow.
