I moved into this bedsit as a single parent with a 3 year old child. This was our first evening. The child was asleep, his cardigan draped over the chair opposite me. The only attractive item in this dismal place was an old ceramic bowl; attractive because it had been used, looked antique, familiar. I placed some peaches in it. I painted the scene before me in an attempt to give it dignity and worth.
I have never tired of this picture - I am proud that I was able to put a positive stamp on a difficult situation.
