This is a more abstracted image of a mare and colt standing in a flat field. The mare is solid and protective, standing over her offspring. The colt is long-legged and solid like his mother. I used different colors to show their individual being, although I only noticed this after the fact. I used cobalt blue to outline the mare's body. I did not define their facial features. I wanted a more dream-like image. These horses came from my own mind, not from an actual animal. These horses are typical of the working horses I saw everyday in the pastures near my town, or on farms. They are not combed; their manes are matted; their fetlocks are dirty and hooves untrimmed. I call them "of the earth" horses. The straight vertical lines of the horses emphasize this connection to the earth they stand on. I admire them. I acknowledge their contribution both past and present.
