Max Patch is a gorgeous grassy bald in North Carolina. Surrounded by mountains in every direction, you leave behind the din of traffic on the highway and life slows down. Only this very large beautiful grassy sun-drenched bald, a blue sky accented by clouds peaking over the mountains on a mild summer afternoon exists. As I crested the top, I spied a couple just relaxing, talking to each other, and enjoying each others company in the moment. This was inspiration calling to me to capture this place in time. And with that, an old song from 1959, "A Summer Place", started playing in my head. In the chorus it says, "and the sweet secret of a summer place is that it's anywhere, when two people share, all their hopes, all their dreams, all their love." I speculated that maybe these two were newly engaged and he had just proposed, maybe they were discussing wedding plans, and maybe they were just taking some much needed R&R after a tough day at work. I prefer the first scenario.
