This painting is quiet special. I spent several weeks over a period of two years working on it. The time of year on each occasion was September and that's the windy period but the light and calmness over the city is very attractive then. Central to the scene is the Duomo of Florence, framed by the tree bough.

The painting location was the location of the church of San Donato a Scorpeto which is a ruin now but the plateau atop the hill is a calm isolated space, perfect for painting. The church was the home of Leonardo da Vinci's painting, the 3 Magi.
