"The physical construction of the combs is preceded by an astral outline formed of wax chains: the builders link to each other with the hooks on their legs. The chains that are formed draw the curves of the combs to be built. In this manner, the architectural plan is impressed upon the ether and serves as a template during the masonry phase. The wax chain helps the idea to descend into form. The information contained in the architectural plan is thus channelled and then crystallised in the structure of the honeycomb.”
