In this painting Monique experiments with creating an image without using contour lines. The portrait has an open structure, which it slowly disappears into the background. It are the colours that gives some contour to the image. The abstract representation with wavy lines keeps its attention on the elements in face like the nose, eyes and mouth. The mouth has pastel-like areas of color in a pattern to maintain balance and tension in the painting.
