We like to think choices are simple. This or that. Good or bad. Right or wrong. Positive or negative. But in reality, life is far more complex than that. The paths we walk are never straight forward. The intersections don’t always make sense. There are big moments and many little ones cluttering the space and making the navigation that much more difficult to process. There are wide open paths and there are obstacles that mislead or slow us down. It’s a web full of angles and challenges with no certain answers and no one right path. Sometimes bad choices lead to amazing opportunities later in life that would not have happened if you hadn’t first walked that hard road. Sometimes good choices lead to catastrophe. When we can see the chaos and complexity that choices truly are in our lives, empathy seeps in.
